New Accident and Emergency unit was declared open at Chavakachcheri Base Hospital on 10th October 2022. The Opening Ceremony event was chaired by the Medical Superintendent Dr S Kumaravel and attended by the Chief Secretary of Northern Province Mr S M Saman Banthulasena as a Chief Guest. Dr A Puvinathan, President, Thenmaradchi Development Association, UK and Mr V Ramana, Chairman, Service Projects, Rotary Club of Colombo South attended as a Guest of Honour. Mrs S Mohanathan, Secretary, Ministry of Health, Indigenous Medicine, Probation & Child Care Service, Northern Province, Mr K Mahesan, District Secretary, Prof. K Kandasamy, President, Thenmaradchi Development Association and Parton of Patient Welfare Society, Dr Dilip H Liyanage, Provincial Director of Health Services, Northern Province, Dr A Ketheswaran, Regional Directory of Health Services, Jaffna, Dr T Sathiyamoorthy, Director, Jaffna Teaching Hospital attended the event as Special Guests.
The Accident and Emergency Unit consists of a newly equipped Operating Theatre facilities. The Operating Theatre Project was initiated and coordinated by the Thenmaradchi Development Association (TDA) global branches of UK, Canada, Australia, Norway, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany. The medical equipment for the Operating Theatre was sponsored jointly by TDA and the Colombo South Rotary Club. Thenmaradchi diaspora all over the world provided generous contribution through their respective TDA branches to fund this project.
